The “Rolls-Royce of viol players” plays a virtuoso programme in the exquisite, period setting of Fota House.
East Cork Early Music has chosen the elegance of the drawing room in Fota House as the perfect setting for the subtle and breathtaking playing of Susanne Heinrich. Her recording of solo viol music by Carl Friedrich Abel won her a Diapason d’Or and the Editor’s Choice Gramophone Award in 2008 and she is described in Grove’s Dictionary of Music as one of the ‘leading players of this generation‘.
Here she will be performing a virtuoso programme of solo works by early seventeenth century English composers for viola da gamba.
Come and experience what the Early Music Magazine calls ‘outstanding artistry‘ in this intimate and period setting as she takes the viola da gamba out of the basso continuo and into the limelight. This programme will feature works from her newly released CD Passion & Division which has captivated listeners and was Gramophone Editor’s Choice this May:
Heinrich herself is on terrific form again.. The melancholy of the opening and closing tracks is bewitching…. [she] dramatically – often poetically – conveys Hume’s deeply personal, seemingly reflective musical utterances… Heinrich includes mercurial, conversational pieces that tease the listener. Bravo!
